Amble & Warkworth

Yay!!! Today I visited Amble and Warkworth and I had such a fun day. I have been out from 10 to 5 and have been on my feet all day, so I'm kind of exhausted now. But not too tired to write this blog entry and shove all of my fun in your faces :) 

I was kind of anxious to travel by bus, because I'd heard all kinds of horror stories about the buses here. It actually wasn't so bad, it was a fairly straightforward system. The only thing that I can't wrap my mind around is why they don't display the stops that are coming up anywhere on the bus. There is no other way of knowing where to get off than to just look at the street signs and use your common sense (which is not one of my strong points, even though I did manage to get off the bus on all the right stops) They also seem to take the time schedules with a pinch of salt. 

First I went to Amble Harbour, which was very picturesque. There were rows of tiny little shops (and I mean TINY, smaller than most bathrooms) and food carts. This week was Harbour Week there as well, which meant a lot of stands with second-hand stuff, all kinds of activities for kids and a big bouncy house. For me that didn't really add to the fun, because I came for the view and to check out all the cool ships. :) 

After Amble I got back on the bus and went to Warkworth. From what I've seen, it's a very small town (just like every town around here seems to be), but it's still nice to walk around there. I went to Warkworth for the castle though. Warkworth Castle is a LOT smaller than Alnwick Castle, but it's still worth a visit. For such a small castle, it does have a lot of rooms devoted to alcohol (it had two wine cellars and a beer cellar). Next to Warkworth Castle you can descend on a path which takes you to a lovely little river surrounded by beautiful nature. A nice place for a good read!

On my way back I sat 'upstairs' in the bus and I chose the front seat, so I had a nice view. It was like riding a rollercoaster: it's way too fast and way too wobbly, and even though it makes you feel nauseous and gives you a headache, it's so much fun :D I realised that I hadn't even had lunch all day, even though it was already 4, so I ended the day with 'cream tea' at Baileys here in Alnwick: a pot of tea (with milk in it of course) and a fruit scone with strawberry jam and clotted cream. YUM!!!!!!
